Things To Do On Black Friday Instead Of Shopping

November 22, 2017

Do you dread this time of year because you hate shopping? Do you despise getting caught up in crowds or have your shopping already taken care of so suddenly you’re free as a bird this Friday? We have some good news for you – just because it’s Black Friday doesn’t mean you have to shop. That’s right, there are plenty of other great things to do on Friday, and the best part is no matter where you go it will probably be quiet. Everyone else will be caught up in the shops and you’ll be sitting pretty, with your feet up.

1. Museum Visits

Instead of consuming material goods, try consuming culture instead. What better time to visit your local museum than Black Friday? You can spend as long as you like in front of your favourite exhibits because you won’t need to move out of the way to make room for everyone else that is trampling through. Once you’ve finished the museum tour you can wander to the coffee shop for a light bite and a caffeine jolt. Ah, relaxing.

2. Volunteer

Do you always wish you could help others more than you do now? Well, you can. Why not volunteer some of your time to a local homeless shelter or even an animal shelter. If you don’t have anything like that in your area, check online to see what others in your community are doing. You can also spend the day clearing out old clothes to donate to charity.

3. Hit The Pub

Why not? Everyone is out shopping, the pubs will be relatively empty – it’s the perfect opportunity for a spot of day drinking. Whether your preferred beverage is a fruity cocktail, a beer, or a pint of cider – it’s the perfect way to spend Black Friday. Why not rope your friends into it, too.

4. Time Capsule

Why not take time out to put together some meaningful items with your family? You can put them in a container and bury them in your garden and agree a time in future to dig it back up. Of course, you don’t have to dig it up – you can put items that represent the time and leave it for someone else to discover. No garden? Store it safely and agree with your family when you should open it up to go through together.

5. DVD & Duvet Day

Why leave the house at all? It’s cold out there, and it might even be wet. Forget that noise. Cosy up in bed, or on the couch, under your duvet and enjoy a movie marathon of all your old favourites. Of course, you will need to do some advanced planning – you don’t want to run out of delicious snacks or get thirsty.

Of course, you could also invite friends over and host a horror (comedy, romance) marathon movie session. The great thing about this is you can assign each person to bring a specific set of snacks. You might not need to provide anything apart from extra duvets for your friends! Why not add wine into the mix?

6. Hang Out

Why not just hang out around your house? It’s the perfect time to sit down and write out your Christmas cards – and arrange other holiday items. You can put up your Christmas tree and take care of all of the holiday decorations, too.

Once you’ve done all that you can sit back and enjoy a nice drink and maybe even read a book. You know, that pile of books you look at longingly and never have time to get into? That time is today – go for it.

7. Indulge Your Hobby

If you have a hobby that you never seem to get time for anymore – Black Friday is the time to do it. Especially if your hobby requires you leaving the house – you can rest easy knowing that no one else is going to be bird watching at the park, no one will be cluttering up your favourite equipment at the gym, and there won’t be too many people anywhere that isn’t a shop.

Just because there are amazing sales out there doesn’t mean you have to shop Black Friday, even if everyone else is. You don’t need to follow the crowd – you can bag some deals online and dedicate the rest of your day to some much-needed self-care. You may even want to head to the spa and enjoy a nice massage before having a mani-pedi.

You’ll find some great deals on Everything 5 Pounds and they’re always available, so you don’t need to panic about pushing through Black Friday just to grab a bargain.
